  • Finnova Foundation CEO Juanma Revuelta and Carlos Ramos, Operations Manager at FumiHogar, held a strategic meeting with institutional representatives from the department of Tolima to consolidate alliances around the circular economy and agricultural innovation.
  • The meeting continues the synergies generated during the participation of the European project ECOFFEE in the Glocal Circular Economy Summit held in Ibagué.
  • ECOFFEE, funded by Horizon Europe, promotes innovative solutions to transform coffee waste into natural biocides and high value-added products.

Ibagué (Colombia), Thursday, 7 May 2026. The Finnova Foundation, through its CEO Juanma Revuelta, held an institutional meeting last Thursday together with Carlos Ramos, Operations Manager at FumiHogar and partner of the European project ECOFFEE, and Yolanda Nasayo Bravo, Secretary of Economic Development of the Government of Tolima, with the aim of strengthening international cooperation pathways linked to the circular bioeconomy, agricultural sustainability, and innovation applied to the Colombian coffee ecosystem. The meeting took place in the context of ECOFFEE’s recent participation in the Glocal Circular Economy Summit in Ibagué, where the European project consolidated strategic alliances between Europe and Latin America to promote sustainable and replicable models within the coffee value chain.

Institutional cooperation to accelerate the ecological transition

The meeting served to discuss potential lines of collaboration between Colombian regional institutions, European entities, and stakeholders from the agri-food sector in order to promote projects related to the sustainable use of agricultural waste, rural innovation, and access to international funding.

In this context, Juanma Revuelta, CEO of Finnova Foundation, highlighted the importance of continuing to build bridges between Europe and Latin America through projects with real territorial impact and technological transfer capacity. The foundation continues to strengthen its role as an entity specialised in the creation of international consortia and in connecting innovation, European funding, and sustainable development.

Carlos Ramos also presented the possibilities for the practical application of the technologies developed within the framework of ECOFFEE and LIFE NextFUMIGREEN, particularly those related to the valorisation of coffee grounds and dry micro-dispersion technology applied to sustainable agricultural bioproducts.

ECOFFEE consolidates its presence in Colombia after the Glocal Circular Economy Summit

The institutional meeting continues the work carried out by the ECOFFEE consortium during the “EU-LAC International Meeting on Bioeconomy and Coffee”, held on 22 April in Ibagué within the framework of the Glocal Circular Economy Summit – Nova Next Summit. The event brought together institutional representatives, international experts, universities, cooperatives, and Agrotech companies to explore innovative solutions linked to the circular economy of coffee.

During the event, ECOFFEE presented its comprehensive coffee waste valorisation model, capable of transforming coffee grounds from the HORECA sector into natural biocides and proteins for animal feed through innovative technologies developed in Europe. The project generated significant interest among public and private stakeholders in the Colombian coffee ecosystem due to its replication potential in Latin America.

Europe and Latin America move towards a shared model of sustainable innovation

The meeting with the Secretariat of Economic Development of the Government of Tolima reinforces institutional interest in initiatives capable of combining sustainability, technological innovation, and territorial economic development. In an international context marked by the need to accelerate the ecological transition and promote more resilient agricultural models, ECOFFEE is consolidating itself as an example of bi-regional cooperation aligned with the objectives of the European Green Deal and the circular economy strategies promoted by the European Union.

Furthermore, the active participation of local and international stakeholders in forums such as the Glocal Circular Economy Summit demonstrates the growing interest in generating permanent collaboration networks between Europe and Latin America to facilitate knowledge transfer, access to funding, and the development of sustainable solutions adapted to territorial needs.

The ECOFFEE project has a budget of €256,451.25, co-financed by the European Union through the Horizon Europe programme (Grant Agreement CIRCULOOS No. 101092295). The consortium is composed of AZTI, Euskovazza, FUMIHOGAR, and the Finnova Foundation, entities working together to promote innovative, sustainable, and replicable solutions within the agri-food value chain and the valorisation of coffee waste.
